Christmas Tree Collection – Public Works crews will pick up trees and wreaths to be turned into mulch with other yard waste. Collection is on Thursdays from single-family residences with Monday trash collection and on Fridays for those with Tuesday trash collection. Exhale – The Council received a presentation on Dec. 8 describing the sculpture “Exhale” planned for 140 West from lead artist Mikyoung Kim. The concept of the art piece is to highlight the collection, dispersion and evaporation of rainwater as connected to the natural hydrologic cycles of the site. The sculpture is a folded and layered perforated metal skin that allows for fog to emanate through the textured surfaces of the piece. More…
Planning for Carolina North – A proposal for developing a satellite campus for UNC-Chapel Hill was released on Dec. 2, 2003. Named Carolina North, the campus would cover 250 acres of the Horace Williams Tract’s 1,000 acres and be built in phases over the next 50 years. The property lies just to the north of Estes Drive adjacent to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
