NEW!   Public comments received through September 8, 2021:

Public Comments - Flood Storage Projects

Common expectations and guidelines for this meeting:

  1. We are glad you are here  and interested in this important topic.   Your input is very important to the Town.   No decisions are being made tonight, instead, this public information session is designed to share information, answer questions, get feedback, and hear ideas and/or concerns.
  2. When you speak, state your name and where you live. In a public meeting, it is helpful to know who is speaking as well as where they live in the community.
  3. Everyone is encouraged to participate. You may be asked to share what you think, or the facilitator  may ask for comments from those who haven't spoken. It is always OK to "pass" when you are asked to share. Use the raise hand feature to be called on.  You can also put your questions in the “chat” feature of Zoom.
  4. Leave space for a diversity of input.    If you have already shared  your ideas, concerns or questions, let others have an opportunity. If someone else has already covered what you intended to say,  consider showing your support for their comments by using the chat function or by emailing the Town, so that we can hear as many different questions, thoughts, and comments as possible. An email to the Town or your support entered into the “Chat”  feature carries the same weight as comments delivered during a meeting.
  5.  When you speak, please be brief and to the point so that we may hear from as many people as possible.   The facilitator might ask you to hold your follow up questions, or wrap up your comments so that others will have an opportunity to share.
  6. Your comments are part of the public record.   Be aware that this is a public meeting and therefore all comments, including those in the chat function, even private chat exchanges, are public record.
  7. Listen to and respect other points of view. People can have similar interests, yet differ in how they think those interests are best achieved.  If necessary, the facilitator may ask you to reframe your questions  or comments in a respectful, constructive manner.
  8. Do your best to understand the pros and cons of every option.   Be as objective and fair-minded as you can be.
  9. Clarifying questions are always welcome  when you don't understand something.

 Some important information for attendees.

  1. No decisions will be made at this meeting.  There will be additional opportunities to provide input before any final decisions are made.
  2. There will be time for questions from attendees.  We ask that you keep your questions brief so that all who have questions can ask them.
  3. The Town Council will hold a public work session on October 20, 2021 for staff to provide an update of the subwatershed studies and a compilation of questions received by the Town from residents and prepared responses (dependent on the number of questions received). Next steps will be discussed.
  4. Public input and comments regarding the project may also be submitted to:  stormwater@townofchapelhill.org.  Please include “Booker Creek” in the subject line.
