The Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro are inviting residents to participate in the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Litter Sweep through Sept. 24. Trash in a stream does not always start at the streambank. If it is on the ground, chances are that it will end up in our local streams and creeks. Cleaning up trash around roadways helps to protect our waterways from pollution.
Ready to participate in a clean-up? There are two options:
Join the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro for a joint litter clean up on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. along Highway 54. For more details, visit our Public Education and Participation webpage.
Contact Angie Tilson at NC DOT by phone (919-296-6081) or email (aktilson@ncdot.gov) for cleanup supplies, such as reversible orange/blue trash bags, gloves and orange safety vests.
The Town of Chapel Hill’s Stormwater Management department provides litter clean up supplies including grabbers, gloves, and vests on a first come, first served basis year-round.
