Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation invites community members, children, and adults of all abilities to help design our new inclusive playground at Chapel Hill Community Center Park. This exciting project aims to create a space where people of all abilities can play together and enjoy the benefits of outdoor recreation.

Barrs Recreation Playground Equipment, a leading provider of accessible playground equipment, will join us for two public listening sessions. Their team will showcase the latest in inclusive playground equipment and answer your questions.

Upcoming public listening sessions:

• Sunday, Feb. 11, 12–2 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Public Library, Room B, 100 Library Drive, Chapel Hill, NC
• Thursday, Feb. 15, 6–8 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Community Center, Meeting Room, 120 S Estes Drive, Chapel Hill, NC

Can’t make a meeting? Take our online survey at the Inclusive Playground Project Update page.  This page shares more information related to the project, including the principles for an All-Abilities Playground.  You'll also find the feasibility study that staff presented to Council in 2023.

Our listening sessions are interactive, relaxed, and open conversations about what types of features and amenities should be included in the re-imagined inclusive playground.  They’re an opportunity to come together to preview potential inclusive playground elements. Both static displays and large, animated screen projections will provide a comprehensive look at different design options.

Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation is committed to creating a playground that promotes inclusivity and encourages all members of our community to engage in outdoor recreation. We look forward to your participation in shaping this exciting project and making it a reality.
