Home MenuChild Passenger Safety Program
The Chapel Hill Fire Department is committed to reducing the occurrence and severity of childhood injuries and death from motor vehicle related incidents. To address this, the department hosts a Child Passenger Safety Program which provides resources and outreach to parents and caregivers to help educate them on proper transportation and restraints for children, as well as to assist with the task of ensuring child restraints are used and installed properly.
The department has over twenty (20) employees which are certified as nationally recognized Child Passenger Safety Technicians, and who have received specialty training and have experience with the proper installation of these restraints.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of unintentional deaths in children. Providing a properly selected, installed and used child restraint is the best way to ensure that your children do not add to this statistic.
CHFD offers a weekly CPS Check, each Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at Chapel Hill Fire Station No. 2 located at 1003 Hamilton Road in Chapel Hill. Parents and caregivers are welcome to stop in without appointment during this time to ask questions and receive technical assistance from our trained technicians.
The Chapel Hill Fire Department is also a proud member of Safe Kids Orange County, participating in county-wide efforts to avoid childhood injuries.
