140 West Franklin is an urban community designed to be Chapel Hill's ultimate gathering place. With over 26,000 sq. ft. of retail space, as well as two levels of covered parking, The Plaza is an ideal location for local citizens to enjoy elegant shopping, dining, and the arts. 

The 140 West Plaza, the public area at 140 W. Franklin Street, is a Town owned and maintained open space and includes Exhale, a signature art piece by Mikyoung Kim.

With new development, changing retail, and increased focus on this part of W. Franklin Street, the Town is re-imagining the strengths and opportunities in the plaza as part of the Downtown Work Plan.

Nationally regarded as one of America’s finest towns for quality of life, our vision is to enhance this pedestrian-friendly complex — the only one of its kind in Chapel Hill — creating an interactive experience where residents and visitors alike may relax, and enjoy the natural charm and blend of culture, unique to Downtown Chapel Hill.

140 West Plaza is used for numerous Downtown events. The Town and its partners host these events to bring the community together and exemplify how the space can be used for large gatherings.
