National Trails Day®, is a nationwide trail service and advocacy movement organized by the American Hiking Society on the first Saturday of June.
It's the perfect opportunity to get out there with the people you love, give back to the trails that bring us together, and make sure no one is left out.
Complete our sign-up form and receive a FREE synch backpack while supplies last
In Chapel Hill, we’ll lead a guided trail walk along the Bolin Creek Trail.
During the walk, we’ll hear from local Adopt a Trail project leaders Steven Feuerstein and Jeanette Bench, who have worked tirelessly over the past year, to remove 5 acres of invasive privet, and replant indigenous plants and trees along the trail corridor.
Those who join us for the guided walk (approx. 1.5 miles) will enjoy a nice day on the beautiful Bolin Creek Trail,
We’ll also learn about the Adopt of Trail Program at Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation and how you might join a group, or start your own Adopt a Trail.
More information on Adopt a Trail program can be found here.
Presented by The Friends of Chapel Hill Parks, Recreation and Greenways, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the Town of Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation department and improve the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in our community.
Benefits of Trails and Outdoor Open spaces
Our parks, trails, and outdoor recreation amenities provide spaces for everyone to enjoy time outdoors, while exercising, or spending quality time with friends and family.
According to the National Recreation and Park Association, parks are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in a community, ensuring the health of families and youth, and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a
community and region.
Studies have shown that increased time spent in parks can lead to reductions in stress, lowered blood pressure and increases in physical and mental health and wellbeing.
