Volunteers enable Special Olympics Orange County (SOOC) to offer training and competition programs to ~300 individuals with intellectual disabilities. Individual volunteers (and groups) can serve as coaches, officials, time keepers, media liaisons, administrative assistants, tournament helpers and other special event providers. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School students can receive student learning hours through the LetServe App.
Get Involved
To Volunteer with SOOC, the following Volunteer Application should be printed, completed, and sent/dropped off to the Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation office, 200 Plant Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Office hours are M-F, 8:30am- 5:00pm (closed Town Holidays). Forms can also be fax’d to 919-932-29223. A drop slot is at the front of the building for after-hours drop off. The application can also be scanned and emailed to clanigan@townofchapelhill.org
Once your application is received and reviewed, the SOOC Coordinator will contact you for a brief interview to discover your skill set. Our athletes range in skill level from novice to very competitive, allowing coaches to find a team that suits their own knowledge and skill. For most sports, NO PRIOR SPORTS KNOWLEDGE is necessary. Only enthusiasm, flexibility and desire to have fun!
