The continual reimagining and improvement of Downtown is a Town Council priority. Below are Town initiatives that contribute to the vibrancy, infrastructure and community of Downtown Chapel Hill:

| Economic Development | Promoting jobs and entrepreneurship in Downtown through Open2.biz and LaUNCh Chapel Hill as part of the Commercial Development Strategy. |
| Greenways and Trails |
Greenways and trails connect Downtown and surrounding neighborhoods to the rest of Chapel Hill specifically for pedestrian and bicycle use. The Bolin Creek trail expansion and Tanyard Branch trail are two notable projects underway. |
| Northside Neighborhood Initiative |
The Northside Neighborhood Initiative is a network of powerful partnerships and investment related to the historically African American community adjacent to Downtown. |
| Streetscape |
Streetscape provides connectivity, walkability, and access to the Downtown. |
| Town Task Forces | The Historic Town Hall Task Force, Varsity Theatre Task Force, and Town Properties Task Force study key Downtown properties and initiatives. |
