Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You

This week, we join organizations across the country in supporting Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) encourages folks to install, test, and replace smoke alarms:

  • Install one in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on each level of the home.
  • Test at least once a month by pushing the "Test" button.
  • Replace all smoke alarms when they stop responding when tested or they’re 10 years old.

The Mayor and Council proclaimed October 6 - 12, 2024 as Fire Prevention Week, urging our community members to make sure their homes have working smoke alarms.

Lights Out as Fall Migration Continues

As billions of birds migrate south in the fall, most of them navigate with the night sky. Bright artificial lights and skyglow can disorient them as they fly over cities. Turning off upward-facing lights like we are at Town Hall is one easy way you can help keep the birds on the right path.
