Report water pollution, drainage, and storm drain problems by calling 919-969-7246 (RAIN) or emailing stormwater@townofchapelhill.org. Include a name, phone number, and detailed location. Staff are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Outside of regular business hours, call 911 to report:

• Flash flooding,
• safety hazards with broken or missing storm drain covers,
• chemical spills, or
• illegal dumping.

What counts as water pollution? It's the direct or indirect discharge of anything other than rainwater or snowmelt into the ,storm drains, pipes, ditches, or streams that make up the stormwater system. Examples include:

• Paints, varnishes and solvents;
• Oil and other automotive fluids;
• Detergents (including biodegradable detergents);
• Food waste, including cooking oil and grease;
• Pool filter backwash;
• Garbage or litter;
• Fertilizers and pesticides;
• Pet wastes;
• Yard wastes;
• Eroded soils.

The Stormwater Management offices are located on the second floor (entry level) of 208 N. Columbia Street, two lots down from the corner of East Rosemary and North Columbia Streets. Visitors may park in the 2nd Floor Visitors space in the building’s lot. More parking is available in any of the nearby pay parking lots.
